RIDE4REPAT DAY 4 & 5

Mount Gambier – Naracoorte 103km

Well after a few days of tailwinds we were thinking that our luck would change as we were now heading in a Northerly direction, but you just could could not write the script any better, as again we had tailwind!! Averaging about 30kmph yet again, today is a short ride to Naracoorte, with expected ETA of 1:30pm with only one sprint challenge at the end i can confidently tell you all we were so looking forward for a beer at The Naracoorte Hotel and some rest time.

Poor old Rod “Rocket” McFarlane accidentally knocked off his Garmin while we leaving Mt Gambier and while said Garmin was laying on the road, it sort of got squashed by a rather large truck that was following us, So now we add a Garmin to our casualty list! Regardless of this and another puncture on the way, it was a beautiful day for a ride throughout the Forrest’s & Wineries on the way to Naracoorte.

Also a big thank-you to the Smudge Monkees for putting $100 over the bar for us thirsty riders & crew, it went down quite well after a nice steak for dinner, then a few more drinks, then a bottle of Glayva, then some arm wrestling, then some shooters………….

Naracoorte – Keith 109km

For those that let their hair down last night may they suffer today, however Private O’Grady will be fine I am sure after going AWOL before dinner last night and getting about 20hrs sleep, so he can be at the front all day pulling the team along to Keith.

So quick breakfast and Peter “I Know A Shortcut” Jenkins was with the media this morning for his usual 8am Press Conference. As we were leaving Naracoorte, my rear wheel that was cracked finally gave way and we had yet another mechanical, so we are down to only one more spare wheel this trip, that casualty list is getting longer, I think someone is going to have to to do a charity ride for us so we can repair our bikes and equipment that has been damaged on this trip.

Due to their being only 80km sign posts on the main Hwy leading into Keith bypass I will allow the sprint standings to go ahead as from the first 80km to the second 80km, as the resyt of the peloton took the CORRECT right turn and FOLLOWED the lead vehicle into Keith township. However what I did find funny and want the world to know is after the sprint pack finished, they looked around and could not see us, and actually got ;lost in Keith of all places trying to find the caravan park, pretty funny especially when they had a qualified “I don’t want to talk myself up” (Stuart Anderson) RAAF navigator, no wonder you guys can’t find that plane in the ocean yet, you cant even find your way around Keith.
